In week two of the Taca da Liga, we will see Sporting Lisbon taking on Farense on Thursday evening. The hosts are making their first appearance in this year’s competition in this match. Sporting have made an incredible start to the 2023-24 season. They are currently leading the Primeira Liga with 25 points after nine matches and are three points ahead of the defending champions Benfica. The Lions come into this match off the back of a 2-0 win away to Boavista over the weekend. That result took them to four matches unbeaten in all competitions, while in the league, they have not suffered a single defeat to date. Sporting’s only loss this season came against Atalanta in the Champions League. The hosts are on a five-match winning streak in home league matches and are the favourites to win this one as well. 

Meanwhile, newly promoted Farense have made a mixed start to life in the top flight. They have taken ten points from their nine games and are four points clear of the bottom three. The Lions of Faro claimed an entertaining 4-3 win over Rio Ave over the weekend. That result snapped up a three-match winless run in all competitions, with their last victory coming over Tondela in the first week of this competition. Their win last week was the only one they have managed on the road this season, following four consecutive losses. Farense have lost each of their last six matches against this opponent spanning the last decade. Unsurprisingly, they are massive underdogs in this one.
