It's been a strange season for Atletico Madrid but one that could yet end with a European trophy being won and second place in La Liga. They have a 2-0 lead from the first leg of this Europa League quarter final tie and will be confident of progressing to the last four. It was two first half goals that secured the first leg win including one in the first minute from Koke. However, Sporting had more possession in that first leg and will have returned home disappointed at not having scored an away goal having created 10 chances in the game. Atletico drew 1-1 at Real Madrid at the weekend keeping them in second place in La Liga but with no chance of catching leaders Barcelona. They have one defeat in their last seven games and won all five of the games they have played in the Europa League this season after being moved from the Champions League after finishing third behind Roma and Chelsea despite not losing any of their away games. Atletico are tough to score against with four clean sheets in their last seven games.
Sporting are third in the Portuguese league and struggling to get a Champions League spot for next season. They won at the weekend but have lost three of their last five games in all competitions. Like Atletico they started in the Champions League but finished third behind Barcelona and Juventus and their only home win was over Olympiakos. Moved into the Europa league, they have struggled to get past Astana and Viktoria Pizen and they don't look able to get a win over Atletico in this tie. Go for under 2.5 goals in this tie.
