Sporting Lisbon vs Porto Prediction & Betting Tips - Taca de Portugal
by Daniel Ngulu | in Football Predictions
FC Porto failed to take advantage of Sporting’s slip in the Primeira Liga this weekend and now the two will be facing off in a different avenue, as they contest in the Portuguese Cup semi final on Wednesday. These two are the leading opponents in the race for the league title and they will also be fighting for the domestic cup. This match comes just weeks after an explosive clash in the league, which saw five red cards flashed. Three of the red cards belonged to Sporting’s men and the reigning league champions will hope for a calmer game here, especially after listing a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2 with Porto in that clash. In their most recent game, Sporting had to come from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Maritimo. They haven’t had much going for them in defence, the last five matches yielding only two clean sheets, and twice they’ve conceded two or more goals. Among these is the 5-0 home loss to Manchester City in the Champions League. Two losses in five home matches isn’t the best form going into such a clash and Sporting will want to improve.
In their last meeting with Sporting, Porto’s men took two of the five red cards in a clash that saw them rise from two goals down to draw 2-2. The high-octane clash is still fresh in the players’ minds, and this promises to be another big fight. Porto go into this game straight from a 1-1 draw with Gil Vicente, which was their second straight draw and third in five matches. Porto are unbeaten in their last 16 matches but in the last five matches, both teams have scored in four. They haven’t done so well against Sporting, winning none of the last five meetings, though they’ve only lost once in that period. Four of their last five meetings have ended in draws, including the two so far this season; 1-1 in the first leg and 2-2 in the second in the league. Porto have a good away run as they go into this game; in the last eight matches on the road, they are unbeaten. They’ve won eight of the last 10 away matches and their only loss in 11 was against Liverpool in the Champions League.

Our Sporting Lisbon vs Porto Prediction
Sporting felt like a loss in their last meeting with Porto and will be out to make up for the dropped points here. In the two meetings this season, Sporting have led but failed to win and this is one of the pitfalls they’ll be looking to address. Six red cards have been issued in the two meetings this season, a pointer to the contest expected here but with the two sides’ form as well as recent head to head returns, we will back this to yield a draw at 90 minutes.
