Sporting got back to winning ways in the Primeira Liga with a 1-0 victory over Farense in their last outing, moving them closer to their first league title in 19 years and will have a tougher task when they welcome Belenenses in Lisbon. The hosts are on 69 points, six ahead of second placed Porto, while Belenenses are 12th on 30 points. For the eighth time in 10 matches, Sporting’s matches hit under 2.5 goals in the 1-0 win over Farense but it was a welcome relief after drawing the earlier two matches, which saw Porto close in. Sporting haven’t won by a two-goal margin in any of the four they’ve managed in their last six matches. They however have four clean sheets and five wins in the last six home league matches. In the last 10 league matches at home, they haven’t scored more than one goal in any. They’ll be fine to carry on this way as long as they get the points. As it stands, they need 16 more points to clinch the title.

Beleneses are six points above the relegation playoff region and thus need three points here as much as Sporting. They should be targeting a mid-table finish this season and the 2-0 win over 16th placed Maritimo was a big boost in the last game. It brought to an end a three game winless streak and having failed to score in in two of the last five matches, they will want to build on the gains from the last game. Belenenses have also had issues in attack, scoring more than a goal in only one of the last six matches, while they go to this game on just three wins in the last 12 in the league. They are however unbeaten in the last five away league matches, though winning just one. Away from home in the league this season, Belenenses have two wins only in the 13 matches they’ve played and have scored just five goals.
