With little time between their matches, Sporting will look to maintain their lead at the top of Portugal Primeira Liga when they host a struggling Arouca side. This match at the Estádio José Alvalade on Sunday will see the hosts top of the table with one-point lead over nearest challengers Benfica. The visitors on the other hand, are at 13th spot with only a point above the bottom-three clubs. Sporting are coming off a 2-1 loss to Atalanta in the Europa League last time out. That result has, however, come at a time when they were flying high in all competitions. Sporting have won seven of their eight matches, drawing the other, before falling to a defeat at the hands of Atalanta. That doesn’t change the fact that Sporting have won six of their seven league games this campaign. Despite such dominance, five of their last six Primeira Liga matches have returned under 3.5 goals which could once again be the case.

Arouca are only marginally above the relegation zone, giving them jitters ahead of this round. They have just six points so far, coming from one win and three draws in their seven league games. They have struggled for goals though, with only eight scored so far in the league. On the other hand, they have kept their goals conceded at reasonably good levels – conceding only 11 goals so far. Despite all these positive vibes, results have been all over the place for Arouca. After starting the season with a win, they immediately fell to three straight draws which are now looking a luxury. The draws are followed by three straight losses in the league, keeping them vulnerable at the wrong end of the table.
