Sporting Kansas City will be looking to stop a two-game winless run when they welcome Colorado rapids at the Children’s Mercy Park for their 10th MLS game on Thursday. A dip in form that has seen Kansas earn one point from the last two matches leaves them second in the league standings with 17 points. They have just one point more than Colorado Rapids, who have played two games lesser. The hosts remain winless in the two matches after returning from the international break, having drawn 1-1 with Austin then losing 2-1 away to Portland Timbers. This loss was their first in five matches but they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in their last four matches and in their 10 games so far, they have just one. Both sides have scored in eight of their opening 10 league matches. While Kansas have the best attack across the two conferences, with 17 goals scored so far, they go down as one of the teams with the most porous defences. They’ve conceded 13 goals so far; no other team in the Eastern Conference has conceded more.

Colorado Rapids are on the rise; their return from international break came with a second straight win, beating the bottom placed Eastern Conference side Cincinnati 2-0. It was also their second straight clean sheet after earlier beating bottom Western Conference side, Dallas 3-0. They will be looking to maintain this on the back of conceding in three straight games previously. Rapids are almost as good scorers as Kansas City but have better numbers defensively. They’ve scored three goals lesser than Kansas, and having played two games lesser, it would be understandable, while they have conceded on average a goal per game. In their last six league matches, Colorado Rapids have lost just once, and a shock it was, as they fell 2-1 to Los Angeles FC. They’ve scored two goals or more in four of their last five matches and will hope to carry the same against Kansas, who haven’t really been the best defensive side around.
