Relegation battlers Spezia have their task cut out when they host a top-two chasing Lazio in Serie A this Friday. The hosts are 17th and four points above the relegation zone while the visitors are second with a cushion of five points from the third-placed Roma. The alarm bells aren’t yet ringing but a gap of four points could disappear soon if Spezia don’t improve their recent form. They have only one win from the last 12 competitive matches, losing six and drawing five. That included back-to-back 1-1 draws in the league, against Salernitana and Fiorentina. Both matches saw them come back from a goal down, so Spezia will look to stay deep in the game. They can also draw strength from the recent home form as Spezia have won five points from their last three home league matches.

Lazio won’t be in a generous mood as they keep marching towards a second-place finish. Napoli are 16 points ahead so it would take a monumental loss of form for them to drop the title, which means Lazio’s practical possibility is to hang on to their second spot. They have done their bit with six wins out of their last seven league matches, drawing the other. Five of those wins have come with a clean sheet living up to Lazio’s reputation of being a tough defensive unit in this season. They have the best defensive record with only 20 goals conceded. That included four straight clean sheets in their away league matches while the results have been impressive too with four wins from their last six on the road.
