Time is ticking for Spezia and they will hope to steal a march in their fight for survival with this latest round of matches when they host AC Milan on Saturday in the Italian Serie A. Spezia are in the relegation zone and sit in 18th place, three points away from safety with four matches left to play while Milan are chasing a top-four finish and are fifth on the table, two points out of the top four. Spezia are looking to win here and hope that Verona, who sit directly above them, do not, when they host Torino on Sunday. Leonardo Semplici’s men haven’t won in eight straight matches and have lost on their last three outings. They suffered a demoralizing 2-0 loss away to fellow relegation candidates Cremonese last time out and now together with already relegated Sampdoria are the only two teams in the league to have gone more than five matches without a win. Spezia have won two of the last four matches against Milan. Their last league win also came against Milan’s city rivals Inter and this should have them believing in their chances of causing an upset especially with the Rossoneri also lacking in confidence.

AC Milan will come to this match probably distracted by next week’s return match against Inter Milan in the Champions League semifinals and this could end up being detrimental in their push for a top-four finish. Milan lost 2-0 in midweek in the first leg against Inter and now have to win by three clear goals to advance to the final. This could force Stefano Pioli into tinkering with his squad. Milan have struggled for consistency and though they have found it hard to win matches, they have also proven to be hard to beat with the loss to Inter ending a nine-match unbeaten run. Their unbeaten run away from home remains intact though and currently stands at four matches; one win and three draws.
