Spain will be one of the leading contenders when the World Cup kicks off in Russia in June. The Spaniards haven't been defeated since they lost at Euro 2016 and are currently on an 18-game unbeaten run. They won their World Cup qualifying group by five points from Italy winning all of their games aside from a 1-1 draw away to the Italians and scored 36 goals while conceding just three. Spain finished 15 points clear of the side in third and won their five home games by an aggregate of 22-1. The Spanish side are unbeaten at home since June 2016 and underlined just how big a threat they will be in Russia with a 6-1 home win over Argentina at the end of March with Isco scoring a hat-trick. 

Switzerland have only beaten Spain once and that was in their last meeting when they won 1-0 in the 2010 World Cup finals but Spain went on to lift the trophy that year. Other games against Spain have seen the Swiss win 15 and draw three. Switzerland won their first nine qualifiers for the 2018 tournament including a home win over European Champions Portugal. They lost the away game in Portugal in their final game and despite having 27 points had to go into a play-off against Northern Ireland which they duly won. The Swiss have won their last four games without conceding a goal and their last 20 games have seen just that loss to Portugal and a penalty shoot-out loss to Poland at Euro 2016. They have only won two of their last seven away friendlies and up against an in-form Spanish side, this looks like being a home win
