Spain vs Scotland Prediction & Betting Tips - Euro

by Nella Wagah | in Euro Predictions

The Olympic Stadium in Sevilla will be the venue for an epic battle pitting Spain at home to Scotland this Thursday. These two nations meet in a Group A UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier, with Scotland six points clear at the top of the group having won all of their games to date. Spain are in second place but do have a game in hand on their rivals due to playing in and winning the Nations League during the summer. Spain are two points clear of Norway who they travel to on October 15. It looks extremely likely that these two countries will both be in Germany for next season's finals. Spain however will be out for revenge having lost to Scotland 2-0 in the opening game of this group.

Spain - Scotland: Form Analysis

Spain have come alive in their last two matches in Group A after that 2-0 loss to Scotland.  That was the second match of this group, one that had begun with Joselu scoring a brace in a 3-0 home win over Norway. They've not only won both matches, but scored a total of 13 goals in the process, while conceding just once. A 7-1 win in Georgia (in which Alvaro Morata scored a hat-trick) was followed by a 6-0 home victory over Cyprus with Ferran Torres scoring twice. That's put them in a great position to qualify for the finals that are being held in Germany next year. Becuase of their Nations League success they are already guaranteed a play-off place. Spain will go into this game undefeated in their four matches since losing to Scotland, winning three in the process. Spain carries a great run in Euro qualifiers played at home. They have won each of their last 24 home Euro qualification matches. This run, which stretches back to 2003 is the longest in Euro qualification history. Spain have only lost home and away once in group stage qualifiers to a major tournament. That was against France in Euro 1992 qualifiers. They've never lost back-to-back games against Scotland. While they will want to qualify from this group, Spain still have a chance if things don't work out. By virtue of having topped their Nations League group, they can qualify through the playoffs.

Scotland have a perfect run so far in these qualifiers. One more win and they will have booked their place in the Euro 2024 finals. That's what Steve Clark will be sending his charges out there to do. They managed a 2-0 win at home in the reverse fixture but they'll know this is a tougher assignment. In their earlier win over Spain, La Roja were preparing for the Nations League finals and might have been distracted. They went on to win it and will be better focused here, which should concern the Scots. Scotland's chances will also hinge on the Norway v Cyprus game. If Norway fail to win, Scotland will qualify no matter the outcome here. With Norway due to play Spain on the 15th, it's more than likely that Scotland will have qualified before the final qualifiers are played. This isn't a game Scotland have really excelled in even though they have a good run in these qualifiers. In qualifiers to a major tournament, Scotland have won their last 11 group stage games. They've won 15 of 18 competitive matches and will ride this tide as they seek a second straight win over Spain. In their last outing in Group A, they beat Cyprus 3-0 away from home. That marked their fourth clean sheet in five matches in this group. Scotland have conceded just once in the five matches.

Spain & Scotland Squad Analysis

Lamine Yamal, scorer in the 7-1 win over Georgia, will miss this game. The Barcelona youngster had to pull out of the team with injury. Another scorer in the Georgia game, Dani Olmo will also be out of this encounter, with a knee injury. The Leipzig forward hasn't played for much of this season. The injury bug at La Roja extends to Yeremy Pino who is ruled out of this game. However, Joselu and Alvaro Morata, both who have scored three, will be available among the options in attack.

On the Scotland side, a lot of focus will be on Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay. He enjoyed good form in the qualifiers and came here on the back of a big week at his club. McTominay has scored six times in the five Group A matches and will be gunning for more here. The Scots are however forced to do without Ryan Jack who has pulled out with injury. Kieran Tierney is also not going to be involved here as he is injured.
