Spain vs Germany Prediction & Betting Tips - Euro
by Devesh Jaganath in Euro Predictions
It began with 24 hopeful nations and now only eight remain at Euro 2024! Kicking off the quarter-finals will be Spain and the host nation Germany, who will lock horns at the MHPArena in Stuttgart on Friday evening.
Owing to their excellent group-stage form and a commanding victory in the round of 16, Spain are now favourites to win the competition with several bookmakers, only marginally ahead of England. La Roja enter this match having won all four of their matches to this point and are the only team remaining in the competition with a perfect record.
While Spain are the favourites at the books for this match as well, write off the hosts at your own risk! Die Mannschaft are still unbeaten and are the highest goal-scorers in the tournament this year with 10 goals, one more than their opponents in this match. The winners of this matchup will advance to the semi-finals where they will take on either France or Portugal. Let’s take a look at the key stats and predictions for this battle of the European giants!

Spain - Germany: Form Analysis
While many expected Spain to emerge as qualifiers from their group, very few had expected that they would reach the last eight looking like the pick of the teams to this point.
The Spanish were formidable in the round-robin stages which saw them drawn into Group B alongside defending champions Italy, Albania and Croatia. They won their group with a perfect three wins in three matches and were the only team that reached the round of 16 without conceding a single goal.
They would concede their first goal of the competition in the round of 16 against Georgia, which happened to be an unfortunate own-goal by Robin Le Norman. However, that did not phase Luis de la Fuente’s side, as they romped back by banging in four goals, the most of any side in a single match at Euro 2024 so far.
With the results from the preceding rounds, Spain are now on a six-match winning streak and have only suffered one defeat in their last 16 matches in all competitions.
La Roja are also unbeaten in their last four matches against Germany!
However, it is worth pointing out that three of those matches against their German opponents ended in a draw, including the most recent encounter at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. In fact, in 26 previous matchups between these sides, nine ended level.
Germany began Euro 2024 as one of the most fancied teams to win the tournament but they have since slipped to fourth-favourite behind England, Spain and France.
Die Mannschaft opened the competition with a resounding 5-1 victory over Scotland and had all but booked their spot in the last 16 after game two where they overcame Hungary 2-0 on June 19. Their final group-stage match ended 1-1 against Switzerland and needed a Niclas Füllkrug stoppage-time equaliser to keep the side’s unbeaten record intact.
In the round of 16, Denmark put up a good fight but the class of Julian Nagelsmann’s side became evident in the second half as they pulled away to a 2-0 victory. That result extended the hosts’ unbeaten run in all competitions to eight matches.
Germany have not lost a single match as of yet in 2024 (W6 D2 L0). Additionally, while they have not beaten this opponent in their last four attempts, they are still the more successful side in the head-to-head standings, winning nine previous encounters while Spain have won eight.

Spain & Germany Squad Analysis
Spain have just one minor injury concern with Aymeric Laporte reportedly struggling with muscle fatigue. If he is unable to feature, Real Madrid skipper Nacho is the most likely to step into central defence.
Spain's major advantage to this point has been their strength down the flanks thanks to the performances of 16-year-old Lamine Yamal and 21-year-old Nico Williams.
The Barcelona wonderkid is the youngest player to feature at a European Championship.
Yamal has been desperate to score in this tournament and took seven shots against Georgia in the last match. He would have got his name on the scoresheet had he not come up against an inspired Giorgi Mamardashvili, with the highly-rated Valencia keeper saving the Georgians from what could have been a much larger margin of defeat.
Julian Nagelsmann will have a few decisions to make ahead of this match. Having served his suspension in the Round of 16, Jonathan Tah is eligible for selection in this match.
The German boss will have to make a call on whether to start Tah in place of Nico Schlotterbeck, who had an excellent match against Georgia. Schlotterbeck also registered an assist in the last match.
Another big decision will be around whether Maximilian Mittelstädt will return to the starting 11 to provide defensive coverage. Further upfield, Leroy Sane had an eye-catching performance, making a solid case to start this one ahead of Leverkusen starlet Florian Wirtz. Jamal Musiala is the joint top-scorer in the tournament with 3 goals and is one to watch!

Our Spain vs Germany Prediction
It rarely disappoints when these two powerhouses collide and given their respective form, this could easily turn into one of the matches of the tournament.
Spain are the side with the momentum and were arguably the pick of the teams in the group stages. However, Germany will have the majority of the 50,000+ fans behind them and carry massive attacking threats themselves with Musiala and Sane in the wide areas.
We are expecting a high-tempo match here and feel there will be plenty of chances created at both ends. Therefore, our Spain vs Germany prediction is: Both teams to score!
Spain vs Germany - Other Interesting Predictions
Over 2.5
Both these sides have scored in every match at Euro 2024 so far and have also netted two or more goals in seven of their last 10 matches in all competitions, respectively.
Germany to Qualify
While Spain have been widely considered the pick of the teams up to this point, we feel that they did get some luck in the draw, facing Albania and Georgia in the last two matches. Additionally, if this match goes to penalties, Germany have players with massive experience which could be a crucial factor.
