Spain and Switzerland will battle on Saturday in one of the quarterfinal ties at the UEFA Euro U21 Championship. Spain topped Group B, while Switzerland finished second in Group D. The winner of this match will play the winner of the tie between France and Ukraine in the semifinals. With Italy eliminated Spain will seek to break the tie with the Italians as the two most decorated nations in the competition. Both have won the Euros five times in their history. Spain last won the competition in 2019 and in 2021 were eliminated in the semifinals. Santi Denia’s charges are one of five teams in the knockout rounds still with an unbeaten record. They won their opening two rounds before playing to a 2-2 draw with Ukraine in their last match. The draw with Ukraine extended their current unbeaten run to 17 matches with 14 of those games ending in victory. La Rojita are unbeaten in the last five encounters against the Swiss. They have won four of those matches including a friendly earlier this year that ended 3-2.

Switzerland managed to finish second in a tough Group D that saw three teams end tied on points. Patrick Rahmen’s charges won only one match and finished ahead of Italy and Norway on account of goals scored. They arrive for this match having lost their last two games and will hope the knockout round lights a spark for them to avoid elimination. The Swiss have conceded three or more goals in their last two matches. To conclude the group stages, they were thumped 4-1 by France. The last time that the Swiss made it out of their group in the Euros, they finished as runners-up. This was back in 2011. Switzerland have struggled with a lack of consistency and have won only two of their last six matches.
