Southampton and West Ham United will both be seeking a return to winning ways when they face off at St. Mary’s, after tough outings in recent times. The two sides are separated by three points ahead of their match on Tuesday, with hosts Southampton placed ninth ion 25 points and West Ham United in 10th place on 22 points. Southampton are coming from a 0-0 draw with Fulham and will feel they should have won the game after getting fine chances and being denied by VAR as well. That result left the Saints winless in three straight matches as they endure a tough Christmas period. Injuries to key players has also jeopardized their ambitions and apart from being winless in three matches, they have failed to score in the last two matches. For a team that has scored 25 in 15 matches, the last three games have rather been underwhelming, all producing under 2.5 goals and leaving Southampton on just two wins in the last seven matches. They have lost two of their last three home matches – to Manchester City and Manchester United but have won the other three of five home matches. In four of their last five league matches at home, Southampton have scored two or more goals and have kept clean sheets in three of the four. Their recent matches against West Ham United have been high scoring – five of the last six producing over 2.5 goals. However, Southampton will be hoping a run of five straight losses to West Ham United.

West Ham United are also on a three-match winless streak; they have one win in their last five matches and haven’t registered a clean sheet in their last six matches. In the last 11 matches they have managed just four wins but have been consistent in attack, netting in 14 of their last 15 matches ahead of this game. Toma Soucek has been key for the London side, with three goals in their last five matches and will be a man to watch here. The Hammers have scored two goals lesser than Southampton ion the league and with their run against the hosts, they should look at this as a game they can collect three points in. West Ham twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Brighton in their last match, making it their fourth game in five that has ended in over 2.5 goals. Away from home, four of their last five matches have also produced over 2.5 goals, with the team winning two, drawing one and losing two. They have just one clean sheet in the last five away matches, and that came against the weakest side in the league – Sheffield United. They have also failed to score in just one of the last five away matches but have conceded two goals or more in three of their last five away matches. It hasn’t been very rosy for West Ham United away from home, as in the last 17 away Premier League matches, they have managed just four wins.
