Southampton vs Tottenham Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League
by Joseph King | in Premier League Predictions
Matchday 28 of the English Premier League sees Southampton in dire straits as it desperately searches for points with the welcome of top four hopefuls Tottenham to St. Mary’s Stadium. The home team sits bottom of the standings with 22 points from 27 matches, putting the Saints two points behind 17th-place West Ham with 10 matches to go in the 2022/23 season. They face off against a Tottenham side that is sitting fourth in the table with 48 points and a four point lead over fifth-place Newcastle. The three points would be crucial for the visitors to build their lead for the fourth and final Champions League spot as the Magpies have two games in hand over Tottenham.

Southampton - Tottenham: Form Analysis
Southampton’s last match finished in a disappointing 2-0 loss at St. Mary’s to Brentford on Wednesday. The loss follows a promising run of seven points in the last four previous Premier League matches for the Saints to drag them right back into the race to avoid relegation. Concerningly for manager Ruben Selles, it’s also the third time in the last four league matches that his team has failed to find the net, with Southampton mustering just one total goal scored during that stretch. Things haven’t gone much better for Southampton at home this season as the side has managed just two wins and one draw in 13 outings in front of the St. Mary’s faithful.
Tottenham will be hoping that a 3-1 victory at home against Nottingham Forest in the last outing can act as a catalyst to improve its faltering away form. The win put an end to a disappointing stretch which saw Spurs fail to score in its last three occasions while also being eliminated from the FA Cup by Sheffield and the Champions League by AC Milan. A trip to bottom-dwellers Southampton could be just what the doctor ordered however, especially with Harry Kane in top form after striking his 19th and 20th goals of the season last time out. Expect the Tottenham attack to pick up where it left off against Nottingham Forest while the lack of any kind of a Southampton attack recently should leave the Spurs defense with an excellent chance at keeping a clean sheet.

Southampton & Tottenham Squad Analysis
Southampton manager Ruben Selles is dealing with a few injury concerns as he looks set to be without the services of four players for the visit of Tottenham. Kyle Walker-Peters had to be removed with a hamstring problem in the loss against Brentford and is going to miss out on this one. The Saints will also be without defenders Juan Larios and Valentino Livramento as well as possibly missing the services of Ainsley Maitland-Niles, creating something of a full back crisis for Selles to overcome.
Tottenham continue to cope with the long-term absences of Rodrigo Bentacur, Hugo Lloris, Yves Bissouma and Ryan Sessegnon. However, the club has more than capable replacements and players to pick up the slack with the likes of Richarlison, Kulusevski, Kane and Son. We’ll likely see Hojbjerg and Skipp continue to man the midfield behind the attacking trio in this clash.
Most goals and assists

- Southampton has only beaten Tottenham once in the last seven meetings between the two teams.

Our Southampton vs Tottenham Prediction
Tottenham should come into this match confident of taking the three points following the team's 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest in the previous match. While they have not been performing well away from home this season, Tottenham shouldn’t have too much trouble dealing with a Southampton side whose attack has seemingly all but abandoned it. The quality in Tottenham’s attack with an in-form Harry Kane leading the line should ultimately prove too much to handle in a match that the visitors likely win by a scoreline of 1-0 or 2-0.
