Southampton welcome Sheffield United to St. Mary's for the final day of a Premier League season that both teams can look back on with pride. The Saints, currently 12th in the table, can potentially leapfrog Everton for 11th place as they are only behind the Toffees on goal difference. The Blades are eighth and can finish no higher, meaning that European football is out of reach. A failure to win this match could see the Blades fall as far as tenth place if other results go against them. Make no mistake, beating Southampton will be tough for Sheffield United. Undefeated in their last six Premier League games, the Saints have come a long way from being beaten 9-0 at home. Both Manchester giants are among the teams played on that run and Ralph Hasenhuttl will be encouraged by a win at Bramall Lane earlier in the season. There is a caveat to that encouraging detail and it is that Southampton are much better away than they are at home. While they are unbeaten in two at home, the Saints have a worse home record than every team in the league bar already-relegated Norwich.

Sheffield United competed for the Champions League spots for so long that falling away from European contention is inevitably going to sting. However, when the dust settles, they will be satisfied at how well the season went. Chris Wilder may regret verbally laying into his players after they lost to Leicester, as they then went on to lose to Everton. The performance bore most of the classic Sheffield United hallmarks though, with perhaps only the self-belief missing. Sheffield United have been poor away from home since the restart, failing to win their last five matches on the road. We see this match being a showdown between two of the surprise stars of the season: Sheffield United's Dean Henderson and Southampton's Danny Ings. Only three other goalkeepers have kept more clean sheets than Henderson's 13, while Ings is chasing down the Golden Boot, two behind Jamie Vardy on 21 goals.
