Southampton vs Manchester City Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League
by Daniel Ngulu | in Premier League Predictions
Southampton will be seeking a second straight win when they welcome former champions Manchester City in their Round 33 Premier League clash at St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday. Southampton head to this game on 40 points and in 14th place while City are second on 66 points. A win here will be crucial for Southampton who are 13 points above the relegation region. They need six points from their remaining six matches to guarantee safety and will be hoping three come from this clash. However, their ambitions may be dented by the fact that they have lost seven straight matches against City. For Southampton, the return of football has had mixed fortunes; they have registered two wins and a loss. After restarting with a win over Norwich, they fell to Arsenal before picking themselves up to beat Watford. With just three wins in their last 10 matches, The Saints could be in for a rough ride against Manchester City. A poor start to the season really messed up Southampton but it is their failure to establish a good run at home that has cost them even more. They have won just four of their 16 home league matches and have just two clean sheets therein. In their last five home matches in the league, Southampton have four losses, and they have conceded two or more goals in three of the five, while keeping just one clean sheet.
City, on the other hand, are on course to securing second place and don’t have much to play for in the league, having been beaten to the title. They recovered from the loss to Chelsea with back to back wins, beating Newcastle United in the FA Cup quarters, then thumping new champions Liverpool 4-0. City needs eight points to seal a second placed finish but that will not be the biggest concern for Pep Guardiola who still has the FA Cup and Champions League to play for. Notably though, they have four wins in their five matches since the return from the forced break. They have scored two or more goals in four of the five matches and four of the five have ended in over 2.5 goals. In City’s last 15 matches, both sides have scored in just three and Manchester City have nine clean sheets in the 15 games. They have lost six of their 16 away matches, but four of the six losses were against sides in the top six. Still, City remains one of the best away sides to bank on, with nine wins in 16 away league games and have failed to score in just two.

Our Southampton vs Manchester City Prediction
Manchester City registered a thumping win over Liverpool in their last match and will look to extend the same to Southampton. A poor run at home is the biggest issue facing Southampton here and it coincides with an impressive away run in the league for City. Only three of City’s last 15 matches have seen both sides score and City have scored two or more in four of their last five matches. Southampton have lost four of their last five home games and we don’t see them recovering here, looking at the opponent they face and generally their home run. We will go with a 3-0 win for Manchester City on this.
