Southampton haven’t had much going their way in recent matches and it will get tougher when they host Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter finals. Southampton go into this game on the back of three straight defeats and they have no clean sheet in their last four matches. The Saints have conceded at least two goals in their last three matches, the most of them coming in the 4-0 loss to Aston Villa. This will be Southampton’s third straight home match, and they’ve lost the last two at their backyard. The positive thing is that they’ve scored in each of their last 14 home matches across all competitions but they are winless in the last four meetings with City. The last two meetings between these two sides ended in draws. So far in the FA Cup, this will be Southampton’s toughest game; in the last round, they eliminated West Ham United with a 3-1 win.

Manchester City are coming from two straight 0-0 draws. Their draw with Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League didn’t mean much but the most recent one away to Crystal Palace signalled two dropped points in their league title charge. Chasing silverware on three fronts means City have all to play for here. In their last meeting with Southampton, they drew 1-1 but they have lost only once in their last 13 meetings with the Saints. They have nine wins in that run and will go into this guns blazing after failing to score in their last two games. This will be City’s second of three straight away matches; they have five straight clean sheets away from home and are unbeaten in that run too, with four wins. This will be the first time in this competition that City meets a Premier League rival.
