Southampton - Leicester: Form Analysis
Just when they seemed to be getting their footing, Southampton were given a reality check at Sunderland last time out. They conceded twice inside the opening eight minutes and went to the break trailing 3-0. It would end 5-0 in one of the most astonishing results of the round. Going into the game it was already perfectly clear that Southampton’s strength wasn’t in defence. However, their capitulation at the Stadium of Light was a major shock. They have no clean sheet in any of their last six matches this season across all competitions. Southampton have conceded three or more goals in three of their last five matches. Each of their opening six matches this season has had over 2.5 goals with both sides scoring in five. Their first loss in the Championship cut short a run of three wins and a draw in the earlier four games. Going into this game, Southampton will be motivated by their scoring run, and knowing that a win moves them above Leicester.
Leicester City suffered straight losses at the hands of Southampton last season in the Premier League. They have just one win over Southampton in the last five meetings. In this game they will seek to rise from a shock home loss to Hull City before the international break. Up until that 1-0 loss, Leicester City had registered six straight wins across all competitions. They can’t claim to be strong in attack but are decent, having scored twice in five of seven matches. Like Southampton, they conceded an early goal against Hull City. However, Leicester didn’t capitulate like the Saints, but still couldn’t break a resolute Hull City defence. For the first time this season Enzo Maresca’s side failed to score. One lesson from the Hull defeat, is that a return to the Premier League won’t be a smooth ride. The biggest ingredient they must have is consistency. With four straight away wins, they have a good point to restart their run.

Southampton & Leicester Squad Analysis
Southampton managed to hold on one of their top players in Che Adams. This might be key for them in this game and the season. The Scotland international has already scored three times in the league and is in line for a start here. In the last game Adams started off the bench, coming in when the load was too heavy for the Saints. New signing Taylor Harwood-Bellis will be expected to get his debut following his arrival from Manchester City. With Southampton suffering defensively, a lot of expectations are on his shoulders going into this game.
At Leicester, they are still struggling to find their footing following massive departures in the summer. English youngster Kasey McAteer has netted twice in three games. He expects to have convinced the manager to give him another nod. The other player expected to walk straight into the team is Kiernan Drewsbury-Hall, who has two goals in five appearances. Stephy Mavididi has established himself well in the team and will be another one eyeing a place in the team.
