Southampton’s potential last throw of the dice towards Premier League survival will be this Saturday when they host Fulham on Match Day 36. This will be a key match for Southampton who are rock bottom, eight points away from safety while Fulham are 10th and gunning for a top-half finish. For the Saints to hold on to their survival hopes, they have to win here and hope that the three teams directly above them lose. Ruben Selles’ men have managed 24 points and their fate is no longer in their hands as regards survival. They trail Everton, who sit just above the drop zone, by eight points. A loss against Fulham will confirm their demotion and in turn, end an 11-year stay in the English topflight. The Saints haven’t won in their last 10 matches and suffered a disappointing 4-3 loss away to another relegation-threatened side, Nottingham Forest last time out. They have now lost three on the trot but will take comfort in the fact that they have never lost at home to Fulham and have won half of the eight matches they’ve played against the London club across all competitions.

Fulham have already confirmed another season in the Premier League after being promoted back at the start of the campaign. They have achieved 48 points which is their highest points tally since the 2011/12 season, the last season in which they finished in the top 10. The London side has a chance to surpass the 52 points tally also from that campaign and will set out to do just that with the remaining three matches. Fulham have never won away to Southampton but will be confident of breaking this streak as they come to this match on the back of a win. Marco Silva’s charges ended a three-game losing run by thumping Leicester City 5-3 at home. Those five goals were the most they have scored all season and should give them the necessary boost to also overcome their away struggles.
