Southampton had a fine first leg in the Premier League but seem to have run out of steam and will be desperate to restart a good run when they host in-form Chelsea. After 23 matches, Southampton have 29 points and are in 13th place while Chelsea have 46 points from 24 matches and in fourth place. The Saints have just four wins to show in their last 14 matches; they’ve lost five of the last six, most recently, against Wolverhampton Wanderers. They had a great comeback to draw 3-3 with Chelsea in the first leg. However, they don’t seem like they can pull that again, having conceded 15 goals and scored just five in the last five matches. Southampton led in the first half of their last game, against Wolves but it all crumbled in the second to see them lose 2-1 at home. That was their third straight loss at home. In the Premier League, Southampton have six straight losses, and have conceded two or more goals in five. It will be harder for them with injuries piling. Theo Walcott and Kyle Walker-Peters are out and Ibrahima Diallo is a doubt.

Chelsea head to St. Mary’s with a seven-match undefeated run and having won six of the seven games. In the last 10 matches they’ve suffered just one loss and under new manager Thomas Tuchel they seem to have settled well. They beat Newcastle United 2-0 last time out and will be glad to have Timo Werner back on the score sheet, ending a 14-game drought in the league. However, they will be without Thiago Silva and Tammy Abraham who are injured, while Kai Havertz remains a doubt. In the last six matches, the Blues have registered five clean sheets. They’re unbeaten in the last five league matches, with four straight wins and away from home they’ve won the last two back to back. Spaniard Kepa Arizzabalaga has kept two clean sheets and it remains to be seen if the manager will stick with him over Edouard Mendy.
