Only a run of two wins in three games kept Southampton out of the bottom three last season. They finished 17th, three points above the relegation zone after appointing Mark Hughes with a few weeks of the season left. Goals were a problem for them last term with only 37 scored and home form has to improve this time around because only relegated West Brom had a worse record than the Saints who only had four wins at the St Mary’s Stadium. Their goalscoring problem may be resolved by the loan signing of Danny Ings from Liverpool. They have also spent £16m on attacking midfielder Mohamed Elyounoussi from Basel and Stuart Armstrong from Celtic.

Burnley have already had a busy season thanks to their run in the Europa League. Thursday night saw them get a goalless draw in Istanbul, at least they have until Sunday to recover from that trip. They finished seventh in the Premier League last season, not bad considering they had a negative goal difference and only scored 36 goals, one less than 17th placed Southampton. 24 of their 38 league games had under 2.5 goals scored  They will be hoping for goals from new signing Matej Vydra who scored 21 goals for Derby County last term. A bet on under 2.5 goals looks the one fo go for in this match.
