Aston Villa fans might not be enjoying a Happy Christmas, well not as far as cheering on their team. Actually they might want to do plenty of celebrating just to take their mind off how poor their side are playing. Just five points all season and two points from the last 13 games is an appalling record. Last week they lost at home to Watford and are now five points adrift at the bottom of the table and seven from safety. That gap just can't be allowed to widen any further if they want to be in the Premier League next season. Last year they went through a period when scoring goals was nearly impossible, They managed two at home to Watford last week but before that had only scored three in their previous seven games. Away from home they are just terrible with seven straight defeats in all competitions conceding 19 goals. In each of those seven games they have conceded at leas two goals and let in four at Everton recently. Southampton have already beaten Villa at home this season (why feel left out?) in the Capital One Cup. They have lost their last two league games though including a 1-0 home defeat to Stoke a fortnight ago and were hammered 6-1 at home by a rampaging Liverpool side in midweek. Now really is the time to face a side like Aston Villa on home territory and they can get a win here to regain some of the confidence lost recently.
