South Sudan - South Africa: Form Analysis
South Sudan were arguably a little fortunate to come away from their trip to Congo with only a 1-0 loss, as they were completely outplayed by the Red Devils in almost every statistical category.
Across the 90, the Bright Stars managed only 37% possession and registered a mere three shots on target, none of which looked likely to trouble Pavelh Ndzila in the opposing net.
With that result, the home side are now winless in their last seven matches in all competitions, including four draws and three defeats dating back to September 12 of last year.
South Sudan have managed one victory in their last 12 matches in all competitions and have not won a game in 2024!
Meanwhile, South Africa avoided a massive disappointment last week as they came up against a plucky Uganda, who managed to score twice from only three shots on target in the match at the Orlando Stadium.
Mbatha’s goal at his home ground in the fifth minute of stoppage time saved Bafana Bafana’s blushes and also extended the side’s unbeaten record to nine matches in all competitions, dating back to the defeat to Nigeria in the semi-final of the AFCON this year.
However, Hugo Broos’s side will now head off on the road, where their record is less impressive, with the side failing to win any of their last three outings (W0 D2 L1).

South Sudan & South Africa Squad Analysis
Joseph Dhata only lasted 25 minutes in South Sudan’s opening match against Congo before being taken off through injury, and he is flagged as a doubt for this match.
Notably, instead of replacing Dhata with a natural striking replacement, Nicolas Dupuis opted to change up the Bright Stars formation by sending in Geringa Atendele, resulting in the side playing a 4-4-2 as opposed to the original 3-4-3 formation.
South Sudan made four changes by halftime in the first match, suggesting we could see a fairly different starting 11 in this one!
With captain Ronwen Williams currently unavailable due to injury, Veli Mothwa started in goal against Uganda and had a howler for the second goal, which could prompt Broos to hand Sipho Chaine a start in goal this time around.
Burnley attacker Lyle Foster opened the scoring for Bafana Bafana in the last match and should continue to lead the line here, while Mbatha’s leveller last time out would have certainly brought him into contention for a starting 11 berth this week.

Our South Sudan vs South Africa Prediction
Ranked 169th in the world, South Sudan are the clear outsider to reach the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations main draw and their performance in their first match of qualifying did little to inspire confidence in their chances.
South Africa, meanwhile, have improved significantly over the last 18 months, but their away record is far from impressive. Bafana Bafana may well go on to win this match, but we feel it will be a low-scoring affair. Our South Sudan vs South Africa prediction: Under 2.5!
