South Africa vs Zimbabwe Prediction & Betting Tips - World Cup
by Devesh Jaganath in World Cup Predictions
Gameweek four in the CAF World Cup Qualifiers will see South Africa taking on neighbours Zimbabwe at the Free State Stadium on Tuesday evening. The hosts are currently in fourth place in their group standings, while the visitors are bottom of the group.
Group C looks like one of the most difficult to predict in this competition, with all six teams still in contention to finish top of the pile. The nine teams that win their groups will earn automatic qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and the top four runners-up will compete for a spot in the FIFA Play-Off Tournament.

South Africa - Zimbabwe: Form Analysis
After earning third place at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, South Africa are now looking to secure a spot in the World Cup for the first time since 2010 when they hosted the event. So far, they have yet to find their best form, though, currently on four points after the first three games, but they’re still only one point behind Lesotho, who lead the group. In this competition, Bafana Bafana beat Benin 2-1 and lost 2-0 to Rwanda back in November before playing out a 1-1 draw against rivals Nigeria last week. With that result, South Africa are now unbeaten in their last four games (W1 D3 L0), while the only defeat they have conceded in their last nine was when they bowed out of the AFCON semi-final to the Super Eagles. Excluding AFCON, the hosts are unbeaten in their last five home games (W2 D3 L0), and kept four clean sheets in that time, while conceding just one goal. Bafana Bafana were unbeaten against this opponent in the last World Cup qualifying campaign in 2021 and are the favourites to win this match.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe did not participate in the Africa Cup of Nations this year, as they were suspended by FIFA from all forms of international football activities. With that ban now lifted, they are back in action and hoping to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in their history. However, they have made the worst start to the competition of any side in Group C, currently on two points after three games and still in search of their first win. The Warriors' points came via a goalless draw to Rwanda in the opening round and a 1-1 draw with Nigeria a few days later in November last year. Last week, they suffered a somewhat surprising 2-0 defeat to Lesotho, which took the Crocodiles to the top of the group. Since returning to the international scene, Zimbabwe have managed only one win in six matches, though that was decided on penalties against Zambia in an international friendly back in March. The visitors have failed to win any of their last 13 away matches in regular time - a record that stretches back to March 2021.

South Africa & Zimbabwe Squad Analysis
Following Grant Kekana’s withdrawal from the squad due to injury, Given Msimango was called up to the national side but was an unused substitute against Nigeria. Burnley striker Lyle Foster made a cameo appearance off the bench last week and will be hoping for a starting role this time, potentially in place of Iqraam Rayners. Captain Ronwen Williams shook off a knock to feature in goal last week and should do likewise in this one.
Zimbabwe carried surprisingly little attacking threat against Lesotho and Jairos Tapera may be tempted to shake things up here, which could open the door for the likes of Douglas Mapufo and Leicester City’s Tawanda Maswanhise to make the starting 11. Tino Kadewere was hauled off at halftime last week and may drop to the bench here, with Tymon Machope the most likely to take his place from the off.

Our South Africa vs Zimbabwe Prediction
While South Africa have not been at their absolute best just yet in this competition, they have faced a few tricky opponents and would likely have had this fixture down as one that they should be taking six points from home and away. Bafana Bafana’s major strength has been in defence in recent times and we feel they will be able to shut out the Zimbabwean attack here and claim a victory. Our South Africa vs Zimbabwe prediction: South Africa to win the match.
