South Africa - Tunisia: Form Analysis
South Africa bounced back from their opening day defeat to Mali on Match Day 2, beating Namibia 4-0. It was a sweet ending to their woes, having gone without a win in three earlier matches. South Africa had also failed to score in those three matches, so a 4-0 win will work out well in terms of their confidence. In a game that they’ll need at least not to drop points, South Africa do not carry a really great run against Tunisia. They’ve lost their most recent two matches against Tunisia. In three straight meetings with Tunisia, South Africa have failed to win. All of these matches were at AFCON, and South Africa will be hoping to break this duck. Bafana Bafana haven't had a great run at the AFCON either; in their last 12 matches at this competition, they’ve managed just three wins. Two of those wins were against Namibia, a considerably weak team. The main stat about South Africa’s matches is that they mostly don’t produce a lot of goals. To some extent it is down to South Africa’s own bluntness in attack. Eight of their last 10 matches had under 2.5 goals.
Tunisia will be banking on their good run of form against South Africa, though they last met in 2008. In three matches against South Africa, Tunisia remain unbeaten. However, they still need to do better than in their recent matches. They struggled to break down Namibia on Match Day 1, going on to concede late and they lost 1-0. Tunisia conceded first against Mali again, on Match Day 2, but this time they leveled it to end the game 1-1. The Carthage Eagles will go into this game with the most pressure as for them, it is a must win game. Even with a win, Tunisia will not be guaranteed a place in the round of 16. That could only get them a third placed finish and would mean they wait on other results. Like South Africa, Tunisia have struggled in attack. They managed more than a goal in just two of their last eight matches. All of their last five matches have under 2.5 goals. Tunisia haven't done well at AFCON either, losing three of their last five matches. They have failed to score in six of nine AFCON matches as well. Eight of their last 10 AFCON games had under 2.5 goals.

South Africa & Tunisia Squad Analysis
Themba Zwane was back to his best in the game against Namibia’ scoring twice in the 4-0 rout. With that performance he may just have earned himself a third straight start. South Africa need him as they go into this game hoping to win. Percy Tau managed to score a penalty in the win, having earlier missed one in the Match Day 1 game. The Al Ahly man has done well for his club but is yet to show it at the national team. As for Tunisia, they have Hamza Rafia to thank after his equalizer in the game against Mali. At a time when the Carthage Eagles need Yassine Khenissi, the forward remains doubtful for this game after also missing their Match Day 2 outing.

Our South Africa vs Tunisia Prediction
This will be one tight game, as both teams go in search of a win, while protecting their back lines, not to lose. The two sides aren’t coming from strong scoring runs; their matches have been low scoring and we expect more of the same here. They haven't also won most of their recent AFCON matches. It will also be expected that they’ll both employ a cautious approach. Our prediction for South Africa v Tunisia is for the game to produce under 2.5 goals.
South Africa vs Tunisia - Other Interesting Predictions
Both teams to score - No
Both Tunisia and South Africa are in precarious positions going into this game, and we expect a tight game. Neither of the two nations can afford to open up here, so caution will be the strong message from both coaches. South Africa can progress with just a draw but a win will be a guarantee. As for Tunisia, there are no two ways about this; they must win here to progress in this competition. One thing though about both sides is that they don’t carry into the game great scoring runs, and with the caution expected here, it will not be a surprise seeing more focus on defence. On the Both Teams to Score market, we will therefore back at least one side to fail to score.
