South Africa vs Sao Tome and Principe Prediction & Betting Tips - AFCON

The recent outings have not been so good for South Africa and they will be hoping to get back on track when they host Sao Tome & Principe on Match Day 3 of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. Ahead of the Group C clash in Johannesburg, South Africa have three points and are second with three points while Sao Tome have no point after two straight losses. Heading to this game, South Africa have no win in their last two matches; they lost to Zambia in their last outing, a friendly match in October, which came after a 1-1 draw with Namibia. The win over Sudan on Match Day 2 in this group, and an earlier one against Mali in a friendly match remain the only ones in South Africa’s last eight games. They have lost five of their last eight and will really do with a win here. It has not been good defensively also for South Africa; they have just two clean sheets in their last 10 matches, and they have just one in their last five home matches. They however have a fairly good run in AFCON qualification matches, having lost once and won five of their last 12 matches. They rarely lose at home in AFCON qualifiers, but they have also not won a lot. In the last 13 at home, South Africa have managed five wins and drawn eight. They have kept 12 clean sheets in 16 AFCON qualification matches at home and will be gunning for one more here.

Sao Tome & Principe on the other hand, had no activity in October and as a result this will be their first match this year. Their last outing was the 1-0 loss to Ghana in this group, having also lost 4-0 to Sudan. The team started from the qualification stage and saw off Mauritius 2-1 and 3-1 across the two legs. Those two are their only wins in the last 12 matches; they have actually lost all the remaining 10. Sao Tome have no clean sheet in their last 16 matches and in 11 of the last 12 away matches, they have conceded two or more goals. The team has trailed in each of its last seven away matches in AFCON qualifiers, where they have managed just one win in nine matches. In the nine away AFCON qualifiers, they have failed to score in five and conceded two or more in seven.
