Slovakia and Azerbaijan will face off this Sunday as they continue with their Nations League campaigns in League C. Playing in Group 1, the two nations posted mixed results on Match Day 1. Read on for our prediction of this Round 2 meeting.

Hosts Slovakia needed Toma Suslov’s late strike to grab three points in a 1-0 win away to Estonia. That brought to an end a three-game winless run drawing back from their Euro 2024 participation.

Their seventh win inside 12 matches also served as Slovakia's fourth clean sheet in seven outings. Francesco Calzona’s side has, however, failed to score more than a goal in the last five matches.

That should be a concern for the Italian as he aims to guide the team back to League B, where they played in 2020/21.

Azerbaijan, managed by veteran coach Fernando Santos are eyeing a spot in League B for the first time ever. To get there, they must improve on their Match Day 1 result, a 3-1 loss at home to Sweden.

Milli Komanda were architects of their own downfall as Ramil Sheydaev missed a first half penalty. That would have given them the lead right before the break. They then paid dearly as Alexander Isak netted a double and Viktor Gyokeres completed the rout in a dominant second half.

Renat Dadashov’s late strike was only a consolation as they were already trailing by three goals.

That marked Azerbaijan’s first loss in four Nations League matches. One of their earlier three wins was against Slovakia and they’ll be eager to bag a second straight win against their hosts.
