Sierra Leone will be looking to propel their chances of qualification to the 2023 AFCON when they host Nigeria. This Sunday clash in Group A has Nigeria second on nine points and Sierra Leone third with five. This match will be played in Monrovia, Liberia, which may not work well for Sierra Leone. The hosts beat Sao Tome & Principe 2-0 in their last game in this group, their first win in seven matches. That win was also their first in this group after a loss and two draws. They lost 2-1 to Nigeria in their opening game but one quality they take to this game is in attack. Sierra Leone have scored twice in each of their last three Group A matches. They’ve scored in all group games here, and three have had over 2.5 goals. In their last 11 matches in AFCON qualification, Sierra Leone have two wins only. Anderlecht forward Mustapha Bundu and former Tottenham man Steven Caulker will lead the hosts’ charge in this game.

Nigeria will have the upper hand here, playing Sierra Leone in Liberia, where their hosts will not enjoy home backing. The visitors are coming into this game having beaten group leaders Guinea Bissau 1-0 in their last game. That was Nigeria’s first win in five matches, and first goal in four games. They’ve however won 11 of their last 15 AFCON qualification matches. That run includes a win over Sierra Leone as well. Nigeria are actually unbeaten in six matches against Sierra Leone, winning four of those. Their meetings have been high scoring – four of the last five producing over 2.5 goals. Nigeria have scored two or more in those four meetings. Their away run in AFCON qualifiers has six wins in eight games.
