Moldovan side Sheriff caused some discomfort to giants in European football as they made it to the group stages for the first time this season. However, they couldn’t advance from a group that had Real Madrid and Inter Milan, and thus they find themselves in the Europa League, all set to host Sporting Braga in the knockout playoffs. Sheriff head into this game unbeaten in their last four matches. The last time they lost was against Real Madrid and they haven’t had a game since the second week of December. This could go two ways; they may be lacking the needed match fitness for this clash or the extended time out may just offer them the needed rest. The fact though is that they did well in home matches in Europe, winning six of the last eight. Their only losses in that run were against Inter Milan and Real Madrid and they had clean sheets in five of the eight matches.

Braga have had an inconsistent run so far; the advantage they take to this game will be that they’ve been more active lately as compared to Sheriff. They are coming from a 2-1 win over Pacos Ferreira in the Portuguese league, the third time in five matches for them to score two or more goals. The negative side of it all though, is that Braga have managed just one clean sheet in their last five matches. While they are more experienced at this stage than Sheriff, Braga will definitely be aware of the upsets their hosts have caused this season. Braga haven’t particularly been strong in their away matches in Europa League, going to this game with three defeats in four. Their only away win in the Europa League this season was against Ludogorets; Braga won 1-0.
