Sheriff Tiraspol host Maccabi Haifa in the first leg of their Champions League second qualifying round tie. The draw has been made for the next round and the winners of this tie will face either Slovan Bratislava or Zrinjski Mostar. Sheriff struggled to get past Farul Constanta in the first qualifying round. They lost the away first leg 1-0 and ended 90 minutes of the second leg 1-0 ahead. That meant extra time but two more goals by Sheriff saw them make it into the next round. Two seasons ago they made it all the way to the group stages of the Champions League and had that famous win away at Real Madrid. Last season saw them knocked out in the third qualifying round of the Champions League and moved into the Europa League. They finished third in their group and then got to the last 16 of the Confernece League. Their home form is much better than that seen on the road. They won three home games in Europe in the 2022/23 season and are on a good run at present. Ten games have been played without deeat since they were beaten by Nice in the Conference League in March. 

It was a lot smoother for Maccabi Haifa in the first qualifying round. They won 4-0 away at Hamrun Spartans from Malta and then won the home second leg 2-1 despite going a goal down. The Israeli's were never in danger and will hope for more goals from Frantzdy Pierrot who scored three goals in that tie. The Greens will be hoping to make it all the way to the Champions League group stages for the second successive season. 2022-23 saw them win three qualifiers but then finish bottom in their group behind PSG, Benfica and Juventus. 21 goals were conceded in five of those group games but the other saw them beat Juventus 2-0 at home. Away form for the Greens from the Carmel has seen them win only two of their last eight away Champions League games. We go for a double chance bet here on Sheriff to win or draw this match.
