Friday is the biggest day in the history of Sheppey United. The Isthmian League South East Division side play in the first round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history with a home tie against Walsall. The Ites are four levels below their League Two opponents. They are 14th in their league but due to this FA Cup run have only played six matches and have as many as four games in hand on some teams. Sheppey United have had to play six games to finally reach the FA Cup first round. Wins have came over Midhurst & Easebourne, Kennington, Burgess Hill Town, Merthyr Town and Billericay Town. The latter win came via a penalty shoot out in a replay. They come into this game having lost two of their last three matches but that's possibly understandable with it being difficult to keep their minds off this historic FA Cup tie.
Walsall are 15th in League Two but only six points behind the final promotion play-off position and a comfortable ten above the relegation places. The Saddlers aren't in the best of form at present with no win in their last three games. Two have been drawn though and their loss last week was away to Mansfield Town who are yet to lose in League Two this season. Walsall have only lost once in the first round of the FA Cup once in the past five seasons. 2022-23 saw them reach the fourth round losing 1-0 at home to Leicester City who at that time were in the Premier League. The League Two side have won five of their last six away FA Cup games. They can make it six and lead at both half and full time against their non-league opponents.
