It is fair to say that this Sheffield Wednesday v Stoke City Championship clash at Hillsborough on Saturday (3pm Kick Off) could well be a game that defines the season for both of these relegation-threatened teams. A win for either would be a huge boost in their fight against the drop, as well as inflicting a painful defeat on a team trying to avoid being relegated into League One next season. Wednesday have lost just two of their last nine at home, winning four and drawing three at Hillsborough. However, they have won just one of their last six games, drawing two and losing three and they need to put a halt to that run of form as they currently lie 22nd in the Championship table, level on points with Huddersfield Town but with a much worse goal difference (-31 compared to -23). A comeback 2-2 draw at home to Norwich in the week should give them more positivity for this huge game on Saturday.

A run of three wins, two draws and three defeats saw Stoke move out  of the relegation zone and up to 19th place on the table on 46 points, but they are just three ahead of Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday, which is what makes this game so important. The Potters were well beaten by Swansea City in the week, losing 3-0 at the Swansea.com Stadium. Steven Schumacher's team have won two and lost five of their last seven away games, scoring seven goals in that run and conceding 13. The first goal could be crucial in this game as Stoke have only one win on the road where they have conceded the first goal and gone on to win (a 3-2 win over Bristol City at Ashton Hate back in September).
