Friday Night's clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City is a real relegation six-pointer for both teams. With the Owls currently 23rd and nine points adrift off safety, a defeat to Birmingham, who have nine more points (32 compared to 23) would be a huge blow for the Owls in their quest to stay in the division. After a promising run of form that saw them win five of eight games in December and January, Wednesday have struggled of late, succumbing to heavy defeats in their last two games, a 4-0 drubbing in the league at Huddersfield Town last weekend, followed by a 4-1 FA Cup 4th Round replay loss at Coventry in midweek. Manager Danny Rohl has left some positions open in his squad in the hope of bringing in some free agents now the transfer window is closed, as he seeks to improve things at Hillsborough, starting Friday.

It hasn't been an easy start for new Birmingham City manager Tony Mowbray. After taking over from the departing Wayne Rooney, the ex-West Brom and Middlesbrough boss saw his team struggle initially, but a run of four games without defeat, two draws, and two wins, (albeit a draw and win coming in the FA Cup) had seemingly started the process of turning things around at St. Andrews. However, a heavy loss to Championship leaders Leicester City in the FA Cup 4th Round was followed by a 1-0 defeat away to local rivals West Bromwich Albion last weekend. Goals are proving tough to come by for the Blues, so any positive result in this game would be a massive boost for their team in their fight to stay in the division.
