Two outsiders in the race for European football meet on Wednesday when Sheffield United host Wolves at Bramall Lane. The Blades are eighth in the table (with their game against Burnley in play at the time of writing) which could be a high enough position to earn a European place depending on who wins the FA Cup. They are eight points off a Champions League place and, with five rounds of matches still to go, maintain slim hope of a dream finish. Wolves are five points ahead of Sheffield United in sixth place, three points behind Man United in fifth after falling to defeat against Arsenal at the weekend. It is significant that defeat for Wolves came at Molineux as their away form has been notably better. If the table were based solely on how teams fared on their travels, Wolves would be third, having won four of their last five away matches. Sheffield United have a similarly good recent record at home, winning four of the last six games played on their turf. They will welcome this fixture warmly after many away setbacks. 

Chris Wilder will be frustrated at how results have been since football resumed in England. Prior to the Burnley match, they have played three away from home since the restart, losing two and drawing the other. Their games have been marred by bad decisions against them, the hawkeye failure against Villa a baffling example. Sheffield United are well-organised and tactically disciplined. It is the lack of a clinical forward which may have undermined much of their good work this season, their top scorers tied on five goals apiece. Wolves have no such issues with the deadly Raul Jimenez firing goals in regularly up front. He has 15 to his name in the league this season. Both teams have been praised for their defensive solidity (each being in the top seven of the division's best defensive records) and we see it being fitting for this game to be low-scoring.
