by Kennedy Kechula in Premier League Predictions
Sheffield United will seek their first win of the season when they host Manchester City on Sunday in the English Premier League. After two rounds of play, City are second in the table while Sheffield are down in 16th. This could however have changed by the time they take to the Bramall Lane pitch from 1400hrs GMT. City, who have won the last five meetings with Sheffield, are set to be without manager Josep Guardiola here. The tactician underwent emergency back surgery earlier this week.

Sheffield United - Manchester City: Form Analysis
Sheffield United have lost their opening two matches of the season. And after losing their final pre-season match, Paul Heckingbottom’s men have now lost three in a row. In this unwanted record, they have scored only once while conceding six times. The Blades began the campaign with a 1-0 loss at home against Crystal Palace. They would score their first goal of the season against Nottingham but would end up losing 2-1 away from home. Sheffield dominated in the Championship as they finished second to secure automatic promotion. They won the second most matches with 28 but since the close of last season, they have struggled to win games. United have played eight matches from the start of pre-season to now and have managed only two victories. They have lost five times in this period and failed to score also on five occasions.
Manchester City have won the last five encounters with Sheffield, twice when away. With their strong start to the season, they will be confident of a sixth win on the trot. City have won their last three matches. Though they haven't been dominant as it has been synonymous with them, Pep Guardiola’s charges have gotten the job done. They are yet to concede a goal while scoring four in the league. City began their title defence with a 3-0 win away to Burnley. They would follow this up with a slim 1-0 success at home against Newcastle. In between the two matches was a penalty shootout victory over Sevilla to lift their first-ever UEFA Super Cup. The match had ended 1-1. The defending league champions have won the last five matches against Sheffield without conceding a single goal.

Sheffield United & Manchester City Squad Analysis
Sheffield have a long injury list with Rhian Brewster, John Fleck, Ismail Coulibaly, and Rhys Norrington-Davies the long-term absentees. Vinicius Souza was the latest player to get on the injured list. The midfielder was subbed off with an undisclosed injury in Sheffield’s last match against Nottingham Forest. In that match, Sheffield’s biggest summer signing, Gustavo Hammer scored a cracker of a goal. He should be expected to start here with Paul Heckingbottom looking to capitalize on the confidence the goal might have given the Dutchman.
Manchester City have also been rocked by injuries in the early stages of the season. Club captain Kevin de Bruyne is likely to be out until the second half of the season after hamstring surgery. John Stones is also another player out of contention for this match and the one after that. Adding to this is manager Pep Guardiola who underwent emergency back surgery this week. He will be replaced on the touchline by assistant coach Juanma Lillo. It is not all doom and gloom though for City as Bernardo Silva is back in the fold. He had missed the last two matches. The midfielder agreed to a contract extension earlier this week. Erling Haaland scored twice against Burnley and should lead the line again here. Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden have looked sharp working in attack alongside Haaland.
