Bottom placed Sheffield United have no time as they seek to save their season and they will be gunning for nothing but three points when they host Southampton on Saturday. Sheffield have so far managed 14 points while 14th placed Southampton have 30 points. The hosts proved they still have the fight in them, by beating Aston Villa 1-0 in their last match. Being 12 points away from safety means they can drop many points from this stage on. They’ve failed to score in three of their last four league matches while they have four losses in the last five, and that can’t happen much more. Sheffield are not so big in attack, and going to this game, they’ve scored more than one goal in just two of the last 14 league matches. They have three wins in the last 14 home matches but go to this game having scored in four of the last five league matches at home.

Southampton, on the other hand, go to this game on the back of yet another defeat, to Everton this time. They’ve managed just one point out of a possible 27 in their last nine league matches. they are just seven points above the relegation zone and 16 ahead of Sheffield United. They have one of the poorest defences in the league, with 44 goals conceded. Away from home, they’ve not been the best to bet on. Ahead of this clash, the Saints have lost each of the last five away league games, and are winless in the last seven. They have no win in the league since they beat Liverpool at the start of the year. Their only win in the league in 2021, is the only time they’ve collected three points in the last 10 league matches. It is also their only clean sheet in the last 10 league matches and facing a side fighting for survival is the least they’d hope for.
