Manchester City had a stuttering show in their last league match and will be hoping to address that when they travel to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United in the seventh round. Hosts Sheffield United go to this game in 19th place with one point, while City, in 13th place, have eight points, and with a game in hand. It has been a poor season so far for Sheffield United and they remain winless after six matches but some improvement has been seen in their recent matches in terms of attack. They have scored in each of the last three games, after going goalless in the opening three matches. Their last two goals came from the penalty spot though. In their most recent game, they took the lead against Liverpool but could not hold off the champions, losing 2-1. Sheffield’s only point of the season came at home in a 1-1 draw with another struggling side – Fulham. While they have conceded in each game so far this season, Sheffield have not shipped in a lot of goals; they have the joint best defence among the bottom seven sides. The Blades have conceded nine goals so far (one more than Manchester City) and in four of their six matches, they have lost by a one-goal margin. Manchester City are coming from a big win in the Champions League, having thrashed Olympique Marseille 3-0 in France. It was their second big win in Europe, but they have so far failed to replicate this form at home. They have one clean sheet in the five matches they have played and even in their only win in the last four league games, they had to battle. In the last league game, City struggled to break West Ham United, drawing 1-1 after a labored win over Arsenal, a 1-1 draw with Leeds United and a 5-2 home loss to Leicester City. They were the top scorers in the league last season, with 102 goals, but have so far shown an acute shortage of that quality. Though they are not scoring a lot in the league as usual, City have hit the back of the net in each of their games this season, on two occasions scoring two goals or more. Each of their last three matches in the league have ended in under 2.5 goals as a result, and this could be another such game, with key absentees in attack.
