Two teams that started the season with high hopes of challenging for the league will meet at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán when Sevilla entertain Atletico Madrid. The home side are in 2nd place with 34 points while the visitors are in fourth place with 29 points. Sevilla are eight points behind leaders Real Madrid with a game in hand and they need to win this match to cut the lead to five points. Sevilla have lost just once in their last ten league matches with that defeat coming against league leaders Real Madrid. They have lost just once in their last fifteen home matches with a defeat to Lille in the Champions League their only loss. Sevilla have won only one of their last nine matches against Atletico with that win coming in their last match in April. They have not won two in a row against Atletico since 2010.

The defending champions are having a difficult season and are already trailing Madrid by 13 points albeit with a game in hand. They were given a boost after squeezing through to the knockout stage of the Champions League but that joy was short lived after losing their last match 2-0 to their Madrid neighbors. They have won only one of their last five away matches in the league. They have now lost their last two league matches and this is the same number of losses they have suffered in their previous 23 La Liga games. Atletico are yet to keep a clean sheet in their nine away matches this season.
