After all the uncertainty, it seems Zimbabwe will get the clearance to participate in the 2021 AFCON competition, and they start it off with a game against Senegal. Ahead of this game Senegal had two friendly matches planned but those were canceled after a delay in getting the full squad intact. In fact, they just had Ismaila Sarr joining the squad a few days ago after a tug of war with Watford. The best ranked nation in Africa can now focus on actual preparations for the tournament, looking to go one better after losing in the 2019 final. Zimbabwe haven’t done well in the run up to this competition. In their last game, they drew 0-0 with Sudan, a warm up clash and they will perhaps be glad that it ended in a clean sheet. It is their only clean sheet in five matches, and the third time in five matches that they failed to score. In their last 12 matches, Zimbabwe have gone winless, with seven losses in the process. Four times in the last 10 matches, they’ve conceded two or more goals. Meanwhile, in matches played away from home, Zimbabwe have five straight losses and have lost seven of the last 10.
