Senegal will start their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign with a home match against South Sudan. These two battle in Group B and start this game chasing DR Congo who beat Mauritania on Wednesday. Senegal are expected to secure a fourth World Cup appearance, but that calls for a strong start and sustained race here. Any early upsets will not be welcome for Aliou Cisse’s men but they have the odds in their favor here. In the last 11 matches, they’ve suffered just one loss, against Algeria. Ahead of this game they beat Cameroon 1-0 in an October friendly game. That was their second win in four, after earlier beating Brazil 4-2. In 17 matches in World Cup qualification, Senegal have just one loss. They’ve won 11 of those 17 matches. It is their home form in these qualifiers that would scare any visiting opponent. Senegal are unbeaten in 25 matches at home in World Cup qualifiers.

South Sudan are relatively new on this scene; this will be the fifth game they play in World Cup qualification in their history. They haven't won any of their previous four and are understandably the underdogs here. The visitors are also facing Senegal for the first time ever and this will be a big test for them. There is always room for upsets in such encounters but we don’t expect much of that here. South Sudan’s last outing was in September, as they beat Kenya 1-0 in a friendly match in Nairobi. Another away win will serve a big boost for the Eastern Africa nation. However, a run of seven losses in 10 matches doesn’t paint a very optimistic picture. They’ve also failed to score in six of their last 10 matches, a run they’ll really want to change here. South Sudan have two clean sheets only in 10 matches.
