Senegal vs Mozambique Prediction & Betting Tips - AFCON

Senegal will host the first of their 2024 African Cup of Nations qualifiers doubleheader with Mozambique on Friday hoping to inch closer to securing qualification for the continental showpiece with games to spare. Senegal are top in Group L with six points from two matches while Mozambique are two points behind them in second. The two nations have played each other seven times previously and the West Africans are unbeaten against their Southern opponents, winning five and drawing two. Senegal are the reigning African champions and will be keen to qualify for next year’s AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast and hopefully become the first nation to defend their title since Egypt back in 2010. They can secure qualification from the group if they can pick up at least four points from this window of matches against Mozambique. Coach Aliou Cisse has called up a strong squad full of foreign-based players like Sadio Mane, Kalidou Koulibaly and Idrissa Gueye but they will have to do without first-choice keeper Edouard Mendy who is recovering from injury.

Mozambique have not qualified for the Nations Cup since 2010 and will be keen to maintain their position in the top two after a solid start in Group L. The Mambas drew 1-1 at home against Benin in the first match before securing an impressive 1-0 win away to Rwanda on matchday two. Chiquinho Conde’s charges have however never beaten Senegal in previous meetings with the best they have managed being two similar 0-0 draws in the qualifiers for the 2008 AFCON. Mozambique will be boosted by the inclusion of striker Geny Catamo who has missed recent matches for the national team due to injury. The Maritimo striker scored the decisive goal against Rwanda. Mozambique will however be without the services of Atletico Madrid defender Reinildo who is out injured.
