Senegal - Côte d'Ivoire: Form Analysis
Senegal qualified for the knockout rounds with a 100% record. Aliou Cisse’s men won all three of their group games and were the only team to do so. Senegal, who are the defending African champions, have now won seven straight AFCON matches. They began the tournament with a dominant 3-0 victory over Gambia and would follow this up with a 3-1 success over Cameroun. To wrap up their group, the Teranga Lions would keep another clean sheet as they won 2-0 over Guinea. Senegal haven’t had the best of times against Ivory Coast. But they will hope with their current form, they can rise to the occasion once again here. Only one of Senegal’s seven wins at the continental stage has been decided beyond the 90 regulation minutes. The West African nation haven’t lost in seven outings and have won six times.
For Ivory Coast, luck had more to do with how they qualified for the knockout rounds. The hosts had a disappointing group-stage campaign and only squeezed through to the last 16 as one of the best third-placed teams. They began the tournament with an exciting 2-0 victory over Guinea Bissau but that is as good as it would get. The Elephants would end up losing their next two games and did so without scoring. First, it would be Nigeria who bounced back from their lacklustre opening round draw by securing a 1-0 victory. Needing to provide an immediate response and avoid an early exit, Ivory Coast imploded against Equatorial Guinea and lost 4-0. Had Ghana and Zambia secured victories in their final group matches, Ivory Coast would have been eliminated. They had the worst record of the four teams to finish third. In the wake of their loss to Equatorial Guinea, the Ivory Coast FA moved with haste to dismiss coach Jean-Louis Gasset. His former assistant Emerse Fae will take up as interim coach. The 2015 African champions had won four straight before their recent slump. They will hope to continue with their excellent record of never losing to Senegal at the continental stage.

Senegal & Côte d'Ivoire Squad Analysis
Senegal will be without one of their options in attack for this match and the remainder of the tournament. Abdallah Sima has been ruled out due to a thigh injury suffered in training. Sima was yet to play in Ivory Coast. It is a disappointment for coach Aliou Cisse but he remains with plenty of options. Sadio Mane, Nicolas Jackson, Illiman Ndiaye, Ismaila Sarr and Habib Diallo are all fit and raring to go. Mane, Sarr, Ndiaye, and Dialo have already scored in the tournament. Midfielder Lamine Camara however is the team’s top scorer and has scored twice so far at the AFCON. Senegal will have Abdou Diallo back for this match after he served a one-game suspension.
Ivory Coast need goals if they are to prolong their tournament past this round. Ten offensive players are in the current squad and only one of them has scored. Jean-Phillipe Krasso scored against Guinea Bissau. He is likely to return to the starting lineup here after starting from the bench in the team’s last match. Seko Fofana scored the first goal of this year’s tournament and has been one of the hosts’ bright sparks. Sebastian Haller has scored eight goals in 21 caps for Ivory Coast. He is however yet to play at the AFCON due to an ankle injury. Nicolas Pepe, Simon Adingra, and Max Gradel are some of the other players who can be expected to play a part in the search for goals.

Our Senegal vs Côte d'Ivoire Prediction
Our prediction for Senegal v Ivory Coast is for under 2.5 goals to be scored in the match. Ivory Coast have found it hard to score so far at the AFCON. This should again be the case here as Senegal have been one of the top teams in this competition and have shone defensively. Matches between these two teams have also tended to not be high-scoring affairs. And with a quarterfinal at stake, a more cautious approach could be expected here from both sides.
Senegal vs Côte d'Ivoire - Other Interesting Predictions
Senegal win to nil
In our second prediction, we will go for Senegal to win without conceding. The Lions of Teranga qualified for this round with a 100% record and currently have won their last seven matches at the AFCON. They kept clean sheets in two of their opening three games at this competition. So far, they’ve conceded just one goal, which means in four AFCON games they have three clean sheets. Host nation Ivory Coast on the other hand have lost their last two games and have so far proven that scoring is not one of their strongest points. They face a Senegal side that has proven to be sturdy in defence while silky in attack, and this is what informs our second prediction.
