Senegal and Equatorial Guinea are set to face off in the quarter finals of the 2021 AFCON, the two having charted their way here courtesy of wins over Cape Verde and Mali respectively. Senegal are eyeing another appearance at the final after getting there in the last edition, and are also targeting their first AFCON title ever. They have been a bit unconvincing in attack though, struggling to score, and so far they have just three goals. They have two wins so far, their 2-0 victory at the Round of 16 coming after Cape Verde were reduced to nine men. Senegal have been solid in defence though, keeping five straight clean sheets going to this game, and that involves the four matches at this competition. Each of Senegal’s last six matches have produced under 2.5 goals. In their only meeting with Equatorial Guinea at AFCON, Senegal lost 2-1 in the 2012 competition. They’ve however won their last two meetings, both being AFCON qualifiers.

Equatorial Guinea are among the giant killers at this competition; they held their own against a much stronger Mali in the round of 16 and won on post match penalties to get here. They may have lost their last two matches against Senegal but Equatorial Guinea will not be fazed by their opponents here. Equatorial Guinea opened their AFCON 2021 campaign with a loss, but recovered to beat champions Algeria before seeing off Sierra Leone. They’ve already faced the bigwigs of African football and after negotiating their way this far, they will be confident they can sink Senegal. Like Senegal, they’ve also failed to score in two of their four matches here. Equatorial Guinea’s last nine matches have produced under 2.5 goals and they will also head to this game with concerns about their attack.
