The Western Conference league leaders, Seattle Sounders, will host tenth-placed Portland Timbers in the MLS on Saturday. The hosts are on 26 points, leading St Louis City and Los Angeles in second and third, respectively, by a single point. However, they have already played three games more than St Louis and four more than LAFC. The Sounders have had a noticeable dip in form in recent weeks. They lost their last league match 1-0 to the San Jose Earthquakes in midweek, which was their fourth loss in their last six matches, along with just two wins. The hosts have now taken a total of 16 from a possible 27 points at home so far this season with a record of five wins, one draw, and three losses. They've lost three of their last four matches at Lumen Field. 

As we head to the midway point of the league, the Timbers find themselves in the bottom half of the table following an inconsistent start to the season. They lost their last match 4-1 to Sporting KC, which was their second consecutive loss and their third league match without a win. Over their last six, the Timbers have won two, drawn two, and lost two. Their biggest downfall, however, has been their away record. In eight matches on the road this term, the Timbers have won just once while losing five times and drawing twice. They failed to win either of their last two, losing one and drawing the other. These sides met just last month in league competition, and Portland won that encounter 4-1 to take their winning streak to four matches against this opponent.
