Seattle Sounders were slow starters at the MLS is Back Tournament, before beating Vancouver Whitecaps in their last group game to secure their place at the knockout stages. They will be hoping for a repeat of their last game when they take on Los Angeles FC on Tuesday. Sounders drew 0-0 with SJ Earthquakes in their opening game at the tournament before falling 2-1 to Chicago Fire but recovered with a 3-0 win over Vancouver. Save for their last game, they were not as sharp in attack at the group stages but will have something to carry to the knockouts defensively, having kept two clean sheets.
Sounders will still need to be at their best against this Los Angeles FC side that scored the most goals in the group stages (11). Bradley Wright Phillips and Diego Rossi were the chief architects for LA FC’s success at the group stage, accounting for eight of the 11 goals the team scored. LA FC sailed through the group stages unbeaten, but with two high scoring draws; 3-3 with Houston and 2-2 with Portland Timbers. Having failed to keep a clean sheet in the three matches should concern manager Bob Bradley; they conceded at least twice in each of their three group games. On the flip side, they scored two or more in each of the three matches.

This is going to be one of the big games in the knockout stage and looking at the teams’ performances at the group stages, we expect a really exciting game. Seattle Sounders kept two clean sheets at the group stage, while LA FC were the best scorers at the same stage. LA FC were not so good defensively though, with their keeper a weak link and once again, we expect them to make for defensive weaknesses with their attacking prowess. Sounders’ Nicolas Lodeiro, Raul Ruidiaz and Jordan Morris combined well to provide the three goals against Vancouver and we expect them to provide another stern test for LA FC. Carrying that form to this clash guarantees Sounders will be confident of troubling Los Angeles and with this we expect a draw at full time.
