Seattle start this game in fifth position in the Western Conference of the MLS and are in a battle to confirm their place in the play-offs as they are only two points above seventh placed LA Galaxy with teams needing to finish between third and sixth.  Seattle have had recent defeats by Philadelphia Union and LA Galaxy but got an important win when beating Colorado Rapids 4-0 at home in their last game. The home loss to Philadelphia is the only one of their last seven home league games that they haven't won and they'll be looking for more home points to get that play-offs place though they have only one loss in their last eight away league games.

Houston are tenth in the Conference but 12 points behind their opponents and have little to play for. They have only won one of their 14 away league games this season and no wins in the last nine away league games with only two points from those games. They are on a run of three games unbeaten but two were at home and the other a goalless draw at Orlando who are bottom of the Eastern Conference. Seattle need the points and can get them with a comfortable home win.
