The third-place Seattle Sounders host the fourth-placed Houston Dynamo for this MLS Western Conference clash. It’s a tight race at the top of the West with Seattle trailing leaders St. Louis City by just three points. They also hold a two point lead over their opponents today although Houston have a game-in-hand advantage over Seattle. The Sounders come into this match off the back of a 0-0 home draw with Orlando last weekend. The result is the latest in a disappointing run for the home team who have recorded only one victory in their last eight matches. Seattle will have to make due without the services of Jordan Morris, Alex Roldan and Christian Roldan as they are all competing in the Gold Cup. They are big misses for the Sounders with Jordan Morris in particular standing out as he leads the team in goals with nine. It’s no coincidence that Seattle has failed to score in their last two matches without the aforementioned players in the squad.

Houston come into this encounter following a morale-crushing 3-0 away defeat to in-state rivals Austin FC. The loss snapped a four game winning streak for the Dynamo who were quickly ascending the Western Conference standings. They’ll try to regain some of that momentum here but Houston has not traveled well on the road this season. They’ve managed only one win as the road team this season while losing in seven of their 10 total trips. The most striking part of Houston’s season so far has been the extreme differences in their home and away performances. The Dynamo have conceded only three goals in nine home league matches this season, keeping six clean sheets along the way. When playing away from home, however, they have just one clean sheet in 10 trips and have conceded a shocking 22 goals. They also hold the second largest difference between home and away goal difference in the entire MLS (+15 at home, -14 away).
