The Seattle Sounders will look to get their domestic season back on track when they host expansion team Charlotte FC, who are in the midst of their debut season in Major League Soccer. The Sounders were dealing with a congested fixture list to start the season with their participation in the CONCACAF Champions League and their early season results suffered as a result. However, Seattle will be thrilled with the outcome as they were able to lift their first Champions League trophy in club history; snapping a 16-year Mexican club winning streak and being the first US team to win the title since the year 2000. Seattle currently sits 12th in the Western Conference with a record of 4-1-6 and will be eager to get back to winning ways after falling 1-0 away to Colorado the last time out. The Rave Green have now won two of their last three in the MLS with their last home outing a 3-1 win against Minnesota. 

Seattle should fancy their chances of getting all three points at Lumen Field in this match as Charlotte have been a real “Jekyll and Hyde” type of team regarding their home vs away performances. The MLS newcomers have a respectable record of 5-1-7, good for seventh-place in the East, but their 0-1-5 away record is cause for concern. They’ll also be at a significant rest disadvantage here, with Charlotte having to play back-to-back away matches on a short week coming off a 3-1 away loss to NYRB in the Open Cup on the 25th of May. The Sounders have the benefit of a full week of rest and preparation for this match with their last outing on the 22nd. A comfortable win for the home team looks to be on the cards here as Charlotte’s away struggles likely continue at a venue that has historically been tough to play.
