Scotland vs Poland Prediction & Betting Tips - UEFA Nations League
by Kennedy Kechula in UEFA Nations League Predictions
International football returns after the summer activities and Scotland will be facing off with Poland in their UEFA Nations League opener. We have a prediction for this match scheduled for Thursday 5th September, hosted by Scotland in Glasgow.
These two nations featured at the 2024 European Championship, performing dismally and will be eager to rise again. Both managed just a point apiece from their respective groups in the Euro finals staged in Germany.
While Poland are looking to maintain their League A status, Scotland will be playing there for the first time this season. On paper, Scotland remains the weakest team in Group 1, but hosting this game at Hampden Park will give them confidence they can shock the Poles.
The hosts arrive for this game having managed just one win in the last 12 matches. Meanwhile, the visitors have five wins in their last 11 matches. This group also has Croatia and Portugal.

Scotland - Poland: Form Analysis
Scotland haven't lost to Poland for the last 44 years, a record Steve Clarke’s charges will want to keep going. Despite this run, most of the teams’ recent matches ended in draws. This match will mark the fifth meeting between them in the last 10 years, with Scotland winning once and drawing the other three.
Off the back of a poor showing at Euro 2024, the hosts will be eager to do well in the Nations League. This journey, they start having won just once in the last 12 matches – against low-ranking Gibraltar back in June.
Scotland finished bottom of their group at the Euros with just a point, conceding seven times in three matches. The Scots must improve here to keep with their ambitions not only in the Nations League but also the 2026 World Cup.
The last three matches between these nations produced draws.
Like Scotland, Poland are also coming here seeking redemption after a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign. They managed one point on the way to finishing bottom of Group D. In all fairness though, they were in a tough pool, and faced France, Austria and the Netherlands.
At the competition they lost their eight-game unbeaten run and will want to get back their rhythm. Last time in the Nations League, Poland finished third to keep their League A status. The two wins they managed back then were against Wales.
Coming into this season’s competition, the target is to finish at least second. A 1-1 draw with France in their most recent game is a promising result to hop on as they approach this game. Poland, however, have just two wins in their last 14 away matches.

Scotland & Poland Squad Analysis
Scotland’s plans for this match will be hampered by injuries to a number of top players. Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney is not yet back from a hamstring problem picked in June.
The injury curse extends to Che Adams who had a good start to his time at Torino. James Forrest, Greg Taylor and Robby McCrorie have also opted out of the team. With Adams out, Steve Clarke is likely to call on Lawrence Shankland to lead the Scotland attack.
Robert Lewandowski has started the season in great shape and will be a big threat to Scotland.
Robert Lewandowski will once again be the highlighted player in this encounter. He is fitter now than he was at the Euros, where he managed one goal as Poland struggled.
The forward player comes into this game in fine form, having scored four goals in Barcelona’s opening four matches. The last time he played against Scotland, he also got to score twice.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has called time on his footballing career and Lukasz Skorupski will most likely replace him.

Our Scotland vs Poland Prediction
Scotland will feel like the underdogs in this game but playing in front of the Tartan Army should offer them a lift. In eight of their last 10 matches at home, they avoided defeat. They also drew all of their last three matches against Poland, who haven't really excelled in this fixture.
Poland haven't done well in recent away matches either and while they rank higher than the Scots, this stands as a tough outing for them. That, and Scotland’s strength at home should define this match. Our prediction for Scotland v Poland is for the game to produce a draw.
Scotland vs Poland - Other Interesting Predictions
Robert Lewandowski to score
Robert Lewandowski is approaching the end of his international career and will definitely want to leave a bigger mark at Poland. This match finds him in superb form, having gone to the Euros struggling with injury.
He scored twice against Scotland the last time he played in this fixture. The 36-year-old has also scored four times for his club this season. Our second prediction will be for the Barcelona man to score here.
