Scotland vs Georgia Prediction & Betting Tips - Euro
by Joseph King | in Euro Predictions
Group A leaders Scotland look to continue their perfect start to the 2024 European qualifying campaign when they host second-place Georgia. Scotland have taken full points from their three qualifiers up to this point and have built up a five point lead over their opponents today. However, Georgia have a game in hand advantage meaning the lead could potentially be cut to just two. With Spain and Norway both off to slow starts, this fixture could go a long way to a possible top two finish for these nations. Georgia are maintaining a slim one point lead over Spain but will face off against them in their next fixture. Scotland, meanwhile, will be taking on bottom of the table Cyprus in their next qualifier in September.

Scotland - Georgia: Form Analysis
Scotland pulled off an incredible late game comeback against Norway away from home on Saturday. After conceding to an Erling Haaland penalty in the 61st minute, Scotland would go on to score twice in the final three minutes of play to secure a remarkable 2-1 win. Steve Clarke’s Scotland team have experienced an extremely positive last 12 months. After earning promotion by topping their group in League B of the Nations League, the Tartan Terriers were able to continue forward with that momentum. They’ve won all three of their qualifiers so far, recording victories over Cyprus, Spain and now Norway. Scotland now head to Hampden Park for the first time since their superlative 2-0 win over the Spanish three months ago. They’ve won seven of their last ten including a draw and two losses.
Georgia have been highly impressive in their own right in recent months. They’re coming off a 2-1 away win over Cyprus which saw them net the winner with just six minutes of regulation time remaining. It was their first three points of the qualifying campaign following a 1-1 home draw with Norway in the opener. Like Scotland, Georgia are coming off a recent successful Nations League of their own. The Jvarosnebi topped Group 4 of League C with an unbeaten record of five wins and a draw, earning promotion to League B in next year’s edition. Georgia are now on a run of 11 wins over their last 15 fixtures – a stretch which also includes only one defeat over the last 20 months.

Scotland & Georgia Squad Analysis
Given how well his team performed against Norway on Saturday, manager Steve Clarke is unlikely to ring in too many changes to his starting 11. The defense in particular was hugely impressive as they were tasked with the unenviable job of slowing down both Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard. They would perform admirably, meaning we are likely to see a similar back three of Kieren Tierney, Jack Hendry and Ryan Porteous take to the field. Andrew Robertson and Aaron Hickey will provide the width in the wing back positions. One change that Clarke might opt for is to hand a start to Saturday’s hero Kenny McClean who scored the winner after coming onto the pitch in the 79th minute. Lyndon Dykes is expected to retain his role up top after scoring the first goal against Norway.
There’s a good bit of attacking talent in this Georgian side. All eyes will of course be on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Napoli’s scintillating number 77 struck for 12 goals and chipped in 10 assists in Gli Azzurri’s Scudetto-winning season. He’ll pair FC Metz’s promising striker Georges Mikautadze, who netted the opening goal in Georgia’s win over Cyprus, up top in the 3-5-2 formation. Manager Willy Sagnol will be sweating the fitness of defender Luka Lochoshvili, who was forced off in Saturday’s match with just three minutes remaining in the game. Bordeaux’s Zuriko Davitashvili provided the match deciding assist against Cyprus and could be rewarded with a spot in the starting 11 against Scotland. He would likely replace Giorgi Chakvetadze who struggled to make an impact in the match.

Our Scotland vs Georgia Prediction
Scotland are the oddsmakers’ favorites to walk away with the three points and it’s hard to argue against that given their superb start to the qualifiers. However, we believe the books are slightly off by underestimating the attacking potential of this Georgia team. They have more than enough talent to find the net against Scotland and will prove to be tough opponents to beat despite their 77th world FIFA ranking. At well above even money, there is a good bit of value to be had in backing both teams to get on the scoresheet. Our Scotland vs Georgia prediction is for both teams to score.
